Who is this blog for?

Thank you so much for coming! I hope that this blog can be a place to share ideas and to learn about the connection between faith and occupational therapy.

About Me
My name is Katherine and I am studying to be an occupational therapist. I was born and raised Roman Catholic and my faith is the most important thing in my life. I consider it a great privilege and honor to journey with people as they are recovering and learning what it means to live their lives after an illness or with a disability. My undergraduate degrees were in Mental Health and Human Services and Theology. During my time in graduate school studying occupational therapy I have completed two 12 week clinical rotations in inpatient rehabilitation working with people experiencing brain injury and at a skilled nursing facility, or nursing home. I am just beginning and I am excited to learn from the wisdom and experience of others. I welcome the chance to correspond and learn from the readers of this blog, you are welcome to contact me at spiritualot@gmail.com

About this Blog
I hope this blog can be a place where occupational therapy and faith can connect. I will be writing this blog from a Catholic perspective, but I welcome the chance to learn from people of other faiths. As such this blog is intended for 4 main audiences:

1. People with disabilities and their families
I want to thank you so much for reading this blog. Weather you yourself have or had a disability or an illness or your family member, friend, or loved one does, I hope this blog can be a place to read, reflect, and share. It is your lived experience that adds the most to this conversation and I welcome the chance to speak with you and learn for your experiences.

2. Occupational therapists who are Catholic
Welcome and thanks for stopping by! I hope this blog can be of assistance to you as you grow in your faith and your work as occupational therapist. I would love to learn from you on how you seek to address spirituality with your clients and the role that your faith plays in your work. My hope is that possibly through this blog a network of Catholic OTs can form where we can share resources and support each other in our faith and in our work.

3. Occupational therapists who are not Catholic
Thank you for reading and I am so glad you found this page. Perhaps you're here because you are interested in discussing the role that spirituality plays in your practice as an OT. Perhaps you have a client who is Catholic and their faith is something that is important to them and you want to incorporate it into your intervention planning. My goal is to get you familiarized and connected with resources that the Catholic Church has for people with disabilities and to share a little about the faith in the process. I would also love to hear from you about how you have addressed spirituality in your practice and insights you have on this topic.

4. People working in Catholic Ministry.
Hello! I am so thankful that you stopped by. Your work has a very special place in my heart. I hope that this blog will provide you with an insight into what occupational therapists can provide to your ministry. I would love to learn about your experiences in ministry, especially working with people with disabilities.
